Maria designers and testers worked with EJ Todd pro-staff in a variety of conditions and locations to develop a range of hardbodies perfectly suited for Australian waters. The Maria Shad is one of these hardbodies and as with the full range, comes standard with Owner ST-36 hooks so it can be fished at a tournament level straight out of the box.

The deep diving Maria Shad has a strong flashing appeal from its fat, flat sided body and a great range of actions including rolling, 'walk the dog' and an instant twitching action resulting from the slightest line movement. After twitching, it suspends to stay in the strike zone and pause with a posture of about 45 degrees in the water. An ideal fishing lure for chasing bream around tight feeding zones like structure, it responds to a wide range of retrieve speeds from slow to fast and has a low tone rattle sound.

Ahhh, nothing better than summer and mangrove jacks and chuck in some awesome new lures from Maria and we have game on in the jack department. The new range of Maria lures are definitely the goods when targeting some good old gold coast jacks. The new lures I'm referring to are the 55mm shad and the 70mm deep jerkbaits in which this season have already encountered several nice jacks and been a few mantle pieces for the abundant jacks here on the coast. Whether it be rock walls, rock bars, pontoons or bridges these lures can be fished many ways to entice one of these great sportfish to be fooled or annoyed to eat the lure.

The deep diving 55mm Maria Shad has a strong flashing appeal from its fat, flat sided body and a great range of actions including rolling, 'walk the dog' and an instant twitching action resulting from the slightest line movement. After twitching, it suspends to stay in the strike zone and pause with a posture of about 45 degrees in the water. The jacks are one of those fish that will strike out of pure aggression to this action. An ideal lure around tight feeding zones like structure but hang on. It responds to a wide range of retrieve speeds from slow to fast and has a low tone rattle sound. The lure weighs 5.7 grams so it casts like a bullet and aids in accurate casting. This lure has been successful for me fishing rock walls and pressure points. I fish this lure in these zones fishing 6-8lb leader and deliver it via the Dobyns Extreme DX 703 rod and 2500 size reel.

The 70mm Jerkbait in the deep version weighs 5.6 grams and dives 1.5m to 2.0m. The lure has a slow floating buoyancy in saltwater. It is fitted with a weight moving system and has an excellent dog walking action with a twitching retrieve. This buoyancy allows it to be backed up over snags and with its strong swimming action it is an ideal trolling lure. It's equipped with fish attracting internal low sound rattles that will call fish and its tight head shakes and rolling action are deadly with a crank and pause retrieve. The deep jerkbait produces an unbelievable natural action just like natural bait fish. This lure has been a standout on natural structure when fishing rock bars and snags as well as catching some big, hard, fighting bridge-dwelling jacks. I fish this lure with 20lb leader and main line and deliver it via a Lucky Craft heavy Drop Shot rod and 300 size reel.

Apart from their awesome fish catching abilities and great colour range these lures are very well priced and don't hurt the pocket as bad when one of these hard fighting, sometimes dirty customers, take a liking to your lure and bust you up. So get out to your local store and check these lures out so you can rumble with a mangrove jack.
